Title: Children's Experiences of Homelessness
Start Date: 01/01/2006
End Date: 01/11/2006
Description:

This research project aims to develop a greater understanding of the experiences of accompanying children in families affected by homelessness and the impact that homelessness has on children's lives - including their health, wellbeing, educational, social and emotional outcomes.

This research project will involve children and young people directly and will give them an opportunity to express their perceptions of homelessness and their reflections on how they and their families were supported during these periods of their lives.

Researcher(s): Morag McArthur

Keywords: children, families
Methodology:

The research methodology will be qualitative in nature and will include a range of methods developed in consultation with children including one-on-one and family-based interviews, focus groups, story-telling, drama activities and artwork.

Children and young people aged 7 to 14 will be recruited through family support, homelessness and other community services in an attempt to gain a broad sample. To minimise the risk of distress, children will not be recruited from crisis services.
